Garth Davis
Director Profile

Garth Davis is one of Australia's most awarded and highly sought after directors.

His television commercials have won major awards around the world. Garth directed the infamous 'Tongue' ad for Tooheys Extra Dry Beer, which took out two Golds and a Bronze award at AWARD, Australia, and a Gold and Silver Clio, among many other national and international awards. In 2008, his Schweppes 'Burst' spot won a prized Gold Lion at Cannes.

In the past few years, Garth has made a move into the international arena, directing spots for Boots for Mother London, Xbox for McCann, San Francisco and Cravendale for DDB, London. All these projects have garnered him many more direction awards internationally.

In contrast to the commercial medium, Garth's first short film, a social realist drama titled 'ALICE', won the Dendy Award at the Sydney International Film Festival 2004, and audience choice award at Flickerfest, Sydney. In 2000 his perversely sympathetic documentary 'PINS' about the lives of 3 parking inspectors, premiered at Melbourne International Film Festival, and took out 2nd best doco. His combined success in both commercials and drama, led him to win the 2004 Lexus IF Award for Rising Talent in Australia.

More recently, Garth directed 3 one-hour episodes for the second series of the highly regarded and multi-awarded LOVE MY WAY series, headed by Claudia Karvan.

Garth Davis is known for his obsessive commitment, cinematic sensibilities and his deep appreciation of the actor-director relationship. An honors graduate from Swinburne School of Design, Garth spent a year at leading design firm Emery Vincent and Associates, then went on to form a collaborative experimental design company called Trampoline. He later joined Exit Films to explore the film medium, assisting director Henrik Dannerfjord for a year, before taking a year overseas to focus on film making, fine arts, and life experiences.

Garth is represented by Exit Films in Australasia; Anonymous Content in the US and MJZ UK in Europe and the UK.
